It’s only a few weeks before the long-and-oft-delayed fourth chapter in one of popular cinema’s most beloved series, Indiana Jones, either lets us relive our childhood dreams or dashes them against the mountain. The Iconfactory’s Anthony Piraino has designed four sets of Jones-themed icons for Mac, Windows and Candybar, based on each film that will release each week until the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. This week, it’s a set based on the movie that started it all, Raiders of the Lost Ark. These are officially authorized icons too! Additionally, the official Indiana Jones site has desktops and AIM icons!

Nando Design Studio has got a spectacular body of work, and fortunately a slice of it is available to download. They rotate their offerings, but right now we are really into the their Space Age Desktops and iMac Generations V2 icon sets (Mac & Windows)

More releases from the Iconfactory today as Talos Tsui unveils a terrific icon/desktop/Leopard dock set based on Sony’s recent PSP rhythm-combat game Patapon. The simple black-and-white vector designs are pitch perfect renditions of the little critters from the game, which (should you happen to have a PSP and memory stick handy) you can download a demo from Sony’s official site. Also featured are a desktops and a really slick dark glass dock (for Candybar). Mac, Windows and Candybar downloads are offered.

Battlestar Galactica is the best show on TV. This isn’t opinion, it’s absolute fact. If you don’t like it, then there is clearly something wrong with you, and you’re a Cylon. One of the lame ones. With the fourth season underway, we thought we’d collect some of the Galactica GUI options available for you to download. The Iconfactory’s Corey Marion has not one, not two, but three excellent sets of icons for Mac, PC and Candybar and SciFi.com has a series of wallpapers and AIM icons!

Kate England from Marmalade Moon and the Iconfactory has been quite busy lately: first up at the Iconfactory is the “remastered” set for the classic Soon Spring, now featuring full sized icons for Vista and Leopard (and as always with the ‘Factory, a Candybar download is available as well). Kate, also an incredible desktop designer, has unveiled Club Marmalade Moon, a new club where members will, via e-mail, receive exclusive and rare desktop art for free!

Starting the week off is one fantastic application that just may or may not preclude any further reporting on new desktop wallpapers. Why? Desktoptopia by, er, Desktoptopia streams fresh wallpapers to your desktop based on what you want. Every 15 minutes (in our case - you can define the change intervals) a new wallpaper pops up, and your computer feels brand new. You can even customize the feeds to download the desktops from the source of your choosing (we might have to do one down the line!).

One of our favorite designers, Louie Mantia, has a spectacular desktop wallpaper in anticipation of this summer’s Batman sequel, The Dark Knight. This one will be on our desktop rotation until July.

It seems only fitting that our first icon recommendation would be from the legendary Iconfactory. They’ve been making icons since you were in short pants and their stuff pops up everywhere. Today’s pick, Refresh, comes from Dave Brasgalla, the artist behind two of the greatest icon series ever produced for the Mac, the classic 32×32 World of Copland, and it’s fatter, wetter son, World of Aqua. Refresh comes in two flavors, original blue and sakura red and gives your desktop a clean, futuristic lift. It’s available for PC and Mac, with a Candybar option for the latter. Love that smooth gloss on the folders? There’s a matching desktop that complements the set quite nicely that will make your computer scream out “don’t touch me with your greasy monkey hands, you’ll get prints all over the shine.”
